Courtney Shanade Salter, born on March 26, 1991 is also known as Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and is the first female to sign with J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. On the 21st October of 2016 Pho was released by her Her debut EP under the Dreamville Records label. It was at this point that she began to gain recognition. Shea Butter Baby, her debut album, was released on 7 May 2019. Ari Lennox posted her debut tracks online in 2012. She released the single Five Finger Discount in 2013 and Ariography EP in 2013. In 2014, she dropped new music through the internet including Bound. She appeared in Omen's Elephant Eyes as well as on Sweat It Out on 21 July 2015. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville crew at that time would like to see her do some Rihanna and Rihanna-related songs. She was officially signed with Dreamville Records on 8 December. The Album Revenge of the Dreamers II, she appeared on the track Backseat with Cozz. She released Pho, her debut EP on the 21st of October 21 in 2016. Ari Lennox later appeared on J. Cole's hit song Change in 2017 and also as an opening act on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour in 2017. The singer also performed on the track Nothing but the Best by EarthGang and Icarus with Bas the label's co-founders. On July 16, 2018, Ari Lennox released the first single Whipped Cream on her first album Shea Butter Baby with an accompanying music video that was released on September 5. In November, she dropped two singles titled 40 Shades of Choke and Grampa. She then released on November 13 two brand new singles, titled"No One and pedigree. Shea Butter Baby was released with her debut single the 26th of February in 2019, for the album Creed II. Shea Butter Baby made an appearance together with Cole on The Creed II sound track on the 16th of November. The music video premiered on the 20th of February to accompany the track. Within one week, the video had more than 3,000,000 views. In December 2018, she performed as an opening act for the From East Atlanta With Love Tour in conjunction with 6LACK.
